Code of Ethics for CMarTech


 A Chartered Marine Technologist (CMarTech) is responsible for harnessing, exploiting, handling, utilizing, or applying marine technology in the pursuit of wealth creation and the provision of services in the marine sector.

As a CMarTech, you are expected to abide by the following rules of professional conduct: 

 

1.    Fulfil legal requirements and the accredited standards of professional conduct in their country of residence, and if different, in the country for in which the work is being done. 

2.    Behave towards all individuals fairly and with respect and warmth

3.    Perform duty with skill, care, and diligence and about professional criteria. 

4.    Save the public interest in matters of safety, health and the environment, and sustainability. 

5.    Exercise your professional skill and judgment to the best of your ability and not take up work outside your competence. 

6.    Accept responsibility for the work you take or which is taken under your supervision. 

7.    Build and maintain your professional competency. 

8.    Fulfil your professional responsibilities with integrity, no tolerance for corrupt practices of any type (like bribery or anti-competitive practices/anti-trust violations), and maintain any important professional indemnity insurance. 

9.    Evaluate and handle relevant risks and communicate these the right way. 

10. Avoid actual conflicts of interest and report any perceived issues to affected parties. 

11.  Maintain the confidentiality of the employer and client. 

12.  Adopt and promote awareness, compliance, and utilization of suitable judgment about every security matter including, but not limited to, those concerning communications, information security, and cybersecurity. 

13.  Raise, with your employer and appropriate regulatory authority, concerns about risk, danger, malpractice, or

14.  Wrongdoing which in your professional judgment lays implications on others (‘whistleblowing’) and help a workfellow or any other individual to whom you have a duty of care who in good faith does so. 

15.  Stick to the provisions of the Royal Charter, Bylaws, and Regulations of the institute. 

16.    Inform the Institute about any serious violation of the Institute’s Code of Professional Conduct by another member.  

17.    Inform the Institute in writing if accused of a criminal offense or an adverse civil court judgment concerning any aspect covered by this Code of Professional Conduct of if adjudged bankrupt or if ineligible as a Company Director or Charity Trustee

18.   Inform the Institute if you have had a membership of another professional organization terminated as the result of a disciplinary proceeding. 

How to apply for CMarTech registration? 

You need to submit your application online or download the form. The application will consist of the following: 

A completed application form that is signed by your referee 

Your latest CV/resume

A professional development report 

Photocopies of the academic credentials 

Registration fee 

 

Standards required for technologists: 

As per the Royal Charter, IMarEst can award suitably eligible and experienced candidates the title of Marine Technologist (MarTech), Registered Marine Technologist (RMarTech), Chartered Marine Technologist (CMarTech), and Registered Marine Scientist (RMarsci) for scientists. 

IMarEst is the only professional organization in the world that can award these titles. 

The ‘IMarEST Competencies’ documents provide a list of the competencies you will be required to display for a successful application to MarTech, RMarTech, and CMarTech (RMarsci for Scientists). 

The evaluation is done against criteria rigorously used by the IMarEST Professional Affairs and Education Committee (PAEC) and the Membership Committee, Both IMarEST Council’s Committees.
