Becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in Australia means attaining global recognition. In addition to that, you will have an obstacle-free pathway, leading to promotions.

Another major benefit of this is that you will also have several golden opportunities to spend time with experts in your field, which help you attain advanced-level knowledge of your engineering field.

In simple terms, attaining a Chartered status will help you stand out among others. Now, you must be wondering how to become a CPEng Australia. The simple answer to this question is there are many pathways to attaining Chartership. However, in this blog, we will tell you about the Academics pathway for becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer.

So, read the whole blog attentively to have a clear understanding of this pathway.

Academics pathway application criteria (CPEng):

·        Included in the agreement between EA and your university

·        Are an engineer who is currently working in an academic position at a Tertiary Institution, recognized by EA.

·        Have an Academic role that includes responsibilities for teaching engineering programs, having Engineers Australia recognition

·        You are a current Engineers Australia member at the grade of Member or Fellow, and you have a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience

Keep in mind: This pathway is not for those engineers who have primary employment outside of a Tertiary Institution and with only a limited role in engineering education (for example, casual lectures)

Things you need to provide:

·        A Self-Assessment against the Chartered Competencies (Take professional CPEng EA report writing services to know the document list).

·        A Letter of Support from your Dean.

·        An Academic Portfolio indicating teaching, career history research and publication activities.

CPEng Academic Pathway for Chartership application process:

1.   Review the application criteria and if you believe your staff/you are eligible, mail charteredaltpathway@engineersaustralia.org.au to discuss getting approval for this pathway. You have to give your resume or the resumes of your staff with details of academic careers and engineering related to teaching responsibilities. An agreement that includes fees payable will then be reached.

2.   EA will enable access to competent candidates, to the Chartered for Academics pathway with the online application system.

3.   When you have got the Alternative Pathway approved notification, stick to the prompts to enroll, giving the Letter of Support from the Dean as a part of your Academic Portfolio file uploaded in the resume field, and the completed Self-Assessment in the CPD Log field. You may also be required to give full or part payment of the free as given, which depends on what has been negotiated with your University.

4.   Until notified by EA assessors to discuss or give any extra information, you will be contacted to arrange a suitable time for your Professional Interview. The interview will be for nearly 1 hour and will involve a wide discussion of your engineering career.

5.   Chartered. After the interview, you will get an email notification confirming your Chartership award and Areas of Practice. An official certification will come up in the email soon after.
