What is Professional Engineers Ontario Limited Licence, and who can apply for this?

A PEO Limited license is given to an individual who, due to having a minimum of 8 years of expert experience, has attained competence in a certain area of professional engineering.

Note: According to 941, Section 45, the practice of professional engineering by the holder of the Limited license has to be limited to the services given in the limited license.

Limited license submission/application requirements:

To be eligible for an Engineers Ontario limited license, you:

Need to have a 3-year degree or diploma in an engineering, science or technology program or have equivalent educational qualifications, with the knowledge that harmonizes with the scope of services within the practice of professional engineering to be provided under the limited license. You have to arrange for your academic transcript to be sent directly from the respective institution/university;

Need to pass the National Professional Practice Examination;

Show that you are of good character;

Have to pay the applicable fees;

Must show a minimum of eight years of experience in the practice of professional engineering

Have a minimum of six years of the experience harmonizing with the scope of services within the practice of professional engineering to be provided under the limited license, and

A minimum of 4 of those 6 years of experience attained in a Canadian jurisdiction under the supervision of one or more people legally authorized to involve in the practice of professional engineering in a Canadian jurisdiction.

A complete application for a limited license

A copy of your ID proof. Use any one of the following official documents:

·        Canadian birth certificate

·        Canadian citizen card/certificate (both sides)

·        Permanent resident card (both sides) or

·        From IMM 1000 of record of landing

Application fee payment: $360 + HST = $406.80 (don’t give a cheque or money order at this time, PEO will inform you when a payment is necessary and give information on how to pay online).
